The place
Pamukkale - literally "cotton castle" - is one of Türkiye's most photographed natural wonders, and in person it is even stranger and more beautiful than the pictures suggest. Warm, calcium-rich springs have spilled down the hillside for thousands of years, depositing brilliant white travertine in tier after tier of scalloped pools. Wade barefoot through the shallow, turquoise water as it catches the sky, and the whole slope seems to glow.
Crowning the terraces are the extensive ruins of Hierapolis, a Greco-Roman spa town founded in the 2nd century BC. Emperors and pilgrims came here to take the waters; you can still swim among submerged marble columns in the Antique Pool, wander a vast necropolis, and watch the sunset from a theatre carved into the hill.
It pairs naturally with Ephesus for a two-stop Aegean classical loop, and the thermal hotels in the valley let you soak away the day before moving on.

What is the nearest airport to Pamukkale?
Denizli Çardak Airport (DNZ) is the closest, about 65 km / one hour by road from the travertines, with daily flights from Istanbul. Many travellers instead fly into İzmir (ADB) and drive roughly three hours, pairing Pamukkale with Ephesus on the way.
How do I get to Pamukkale?
Fly Istanbul to Denizli in about an hour, then transfer by road to the village of Pamukkale itself. All our packages include the transfer; independently, shuttle buses meet most flights and intercity coaches run from İzmir, Antalya and Cappadocia.
Can you swim at Pamukkale?
